Frequently asked questions
A payment gateway is a system that facilitates payments on the internet. A payment gateway facilitates card payments as standard, but some payment gateways also offer the possibility of payment by bank transfer or BNPL. A payment gateway is a highly secure system, where payment data is protected by means such as 3D secure and payment gateway operators' systems are usually PCI DSS certified. The payment gateways are mainly used by e-shops, but also other companies such as sellers of airline tickets, tickets or insurance products. Payment gateway operators are regulated companies and hold one of the national bank's payment licenses.
A payment gateway is a system that facilitates payments on the internet. The payment process involves 1) the buyer - the payer, 2) the payment gateway operator - a licensed company, and 3) the seller of the goods - usually an e-shop. The buyer instructs the payment gateway by, for example, filling in card details and confirming the payment. The payment gateway verifies the payment and sends a payment message to the seller. Then, usually within the next day, the payment gateway operator sends the funds (payment for the goods or services) to the seller's account. The purpose of the payment gateway is therefore to make secure payments, usually with immediate confirmation of payment.
Payment gateways can be distinguished according to the range of payment methods offered, whether they offer a public price list of services or how fees are charged. In principle, the wider the range of payment methods offered, the greater the chances of completing the payment. Therefore, payment gateways offering card payments, as well as bank transfers, QR payments or BNPL, achieve better conversion results. Some payment gateway operators offer public price lists, others prefer non-public price negotiations. Payment gateway fees are basically divided into fixed or indicative fees in the MIF++ model.
Payment gateway fees typically consist of fees from individual payments and a monthly fee for operating the payment gateway. The monthly operating fee is usually not charged starting from a certain volume of payments. In addition, some providers charge an activation fee or a fee for each single transfer of funds to the merchant's bank account. A common flaw in the price lists of some payment gateway providers is the lack of clarity of the offer. Among the many faults of the offers are: 1) presenting estimated prices according to MIF++ as if they were fixed prices, 2) emphasizing only one component of the transaction fee and suppressing information about other fees, 3) the minimum transaction fee is harder for the general public to calculate. Some providers often resort to the practice of offering a good deal at the beginning of the cooperation and then, after a period of about six months, increasing the price under the pretext of a different than expected average value of payments or a like argument. The choice of a provider that charges fixed fees according to the offer and presents its price lists publicly on the internet offers certainty.
The payment gateway is free for up to six months on our Start plan. During this entire period, you will have a free fee for the operation of the payment gateway, plus fees for card payments up to 50 thousand CZK per month are also free. For card payments over 50 k CZK per month, a fee of 0.98% + 0 CZK will apply. After the end of the first six months, you will be charged the standard Easy tariff fees. The Start tariff is designed for new merchants who have not used card payments in the past. You can find all the above mentioned price tariffs on our website.
